While you should have an idea already of where your customers will come from there is almost always a certain amount of cold-calling involved in any business. Consider leveraging your time with time-saving business building tools that exist today; including systems and calling systems that will dial through hundreds of leads in a matter of minutes, and email auto-responders to follow up with prospects.

When a home based entrepreneur is unsure of them self as an individual, it's natural for them to try and rely on the quality of the product or service they offer -- yet it is possible to focus too much attention on knowing your product and not enough on getting out and marketing it. Also consider that when you are an entrepreneur in business for yourself, people are buying you! Plan to continually invest in yourself, and your skills and your confidence and competence will grow as well.

Another key to being successful is being comfortable wearing many different hats within your business. Sometimes a home-based entrepreneur is the CEO, sales manager, receptionist and the bathroom cleaner too. This will not happen all at once, but gradually you will become more adept at shifting roles when necessary, and most importantly managing your time well.

Some folks are not able to go 'full time' with their home based business immediately. In fact many folks start 'part time' around their existing day job. Wealthy and successful people think differently to everyone else. They have created the millions and belief issues are a thing of the past. The proof is in their bank accounts, the clothes they wear and the cars they drive. They have an air of confidence about them that shows they are a winner in the game of life. This confidence and belief must be understood before you can create real, long-standing and stable wealth.

How does a home business owner, just starting out, think and operate like a wealthy person when they have just enough capital to keep the business going?

You Own a Business
The first thing to realise is that you are running a business. It is not a hobby, something that you do when the mood grabs you. It requires consistent time and effort. Even if this is only 1 hour a day or 3 hours a week, it needs to be consistent. Make an appointment with yourself and keep it.

When we are working for someone else we usually make every effort to turn up on time and keep our appointments. Why would you treat working for yourself any differently? Just because you are the boss doesn't give you permission to come to work late and go home early!

Expect to Succeed
Wealthy and successful people create their own reality and expect to succeed. It all starts with a thought or a dream or some desire to achieve something. They think big and they operate from a position of faith rather than a position of fear. They expect to receive everything in abundance.

• What are your goals?
• Why did you start this home business?

Are these goals big enough and the desire strong enough to carry you through the times when the going gets tough? If not then you need to rethink them. They need to acts as a carrot for you, your reward for all the effort and sacrifice that you will need to make.

Commitment
The wealthy are prepared to do what it takes to get their goals. Many times when I have been discussing this with my family I often use a term I call the Viking Option, although I'm not sure if the Vikings actually did this. For me the term means there is no way back, there is no alternative but to carry on and see it through.

In a new home business venture it is no good saying that "I'll try this for a couple of weeks and see what happens." Due to the low cost of entry into a home business we don't take it seriously. If you had bought a franchise or some other business then the initial costs would be in the tens of thousands of dollars with the likely hood that the first profits could be 2-3 years away. Are you going to give this up after a few weeks?
